Jackson Rathbone’s The Last Airbender Trailer, Interview Empty Jackson Rathbone’s The Last Airbender Trailer, Interview

Post  magic Wed Jun 24, 2009 5:32 pm

New Moon vamp Jackon Rathbone has a new filmed called The Last Airbender coming out next Summer, and the trailer has just hit the Internets. It’s directed by psychological horror director M. Night Shyamalan.

It’s based on a cartoon of the same name, and Rathbone will play the role of Sokka in the film.

There is also a new interview with Jackson at Starlog, where he gives his thoughts on the filming of New Moon–

“But as the films progress, you get deeper into the aura of that mythical world that you establish with the werewolves and getting more into the vampire society and their legacy. It keeps getting deeper. That’s the great thing about being in the TWILIGHT franchise: You get to grow with the story and have the characters develop. [When you’re an actor in a standalone movie], you only have two hours to develop your character. But when you have three films, you get six hours. It’s like you can go anywhere and everywhere. And that’s a blessing as an actor.”

    Full interview:

Jackson Rathbone is literally in the TWILIGHT of his career—and that’s a good thing for the 25-year-old actor. The first film based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling book series opened to big business last November and ended up grossing more than $190 million at the U.S. box office. In the second film, NEW MOON, THE GOLDEN COMPASS’ Chris Weitz takes over for Catherine Hardwicke as director, but Bella, Edward and the rest of the Cullen clan return. The eagerly awaited movie doesn’t debut until November 20, but Rathbone (who plays Jasper Hale, a member of the Cullen family) has a few things to say about making the first film and what to expect in the sequel—including the introduction of the werewolves.

“TWILIGHT was one of Summit’s first films [as a fully independent studio],” he says while relaxing on the set of a forthcoming project. “So it was like a bigger-budget indie movie, and it felt like an indie film—just the way we were all making the film together and the way Catherine Hardwicke directs. It was a really fun vibe on the set. It was also a little bit stressful because as we kept filming, the press and the fans kept getting more into it and all these websites started popping up and TWILIGHT Moms and all these things. It was amazing. It was like, ‘Oh, wow! This is going to be something else.’

“We started making this movie and people were already loving TWILIGHT and it wasn’t even out yet. It was six months to its release, and it was like people were already lining up at movie theaters. That was an experience in and of itself that I wasn’t really prepared for. But I’m thankful for it, because the fans are so supportive of what we do, and as an actor, you need an audience. I’ve done Shakespeare in Texas in front of an audience of three people. When everybody on stage outnumbers everybody in the audience by a lot, that’s when you’re like, ‘Uh-huh…’ So it’s really nice to get to play to such a big audience.”

But after TWILIGHT’s tremendous success and exposure, can NEW MOON still have that same sort of indie feel? “It does kind of,” Rathbone replies. “We definitely have a bigger budget and more pressure to keep that feeling going. The nice thing is that in NEW MOON we get to delve more into the story. Still, TWILIGHT has always been my favorite [of the books], because it takes you into this realm. It takes you from reality into this fantasy-reality, and it makes that fantasy more real.
